About the job

In this role, the commissioning engineer executes the fundamental building blocks of new and existing building commissioning, report writing budgeting, time management, and client and team communication with little to no oversight. A CxA III can lead client communication on large and complex engagements with minimal support under the direction of the Director of Engineering.

 

Tasks which a CxA III is expected to be self-sufficient at include:

 

· Collect equipment data on site audits

· Perform construction observations, review contract documents, develop functional test plans and perform tests for a wide variety of mechanical, and controls systems.

· Execute all aspects of commissioning projects including field data collection, design reviews, checklist development, on-site functional testing, performance tests, analysis, calculations and final report writing

· Witness and interpret equipment performance tests, install and use testing equipment and analyze data collected

· Contribute to engineering teams in the delivery of mechanical/electrical systems commissioning, energy and consulting on complex projects for local and national clients.

· Complete written commissioning reports and clearly communicating results to clients and stakeholders

· Perform research into new technologies and remaining up to date on industry trends

· Active participation in the development of internal company initiatives

 

Requirements

· Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in building commissioning

· BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering strongly preferred, related degrees in “Building Science”, “Energy Engineering”, or others may be accepted. Related technical commissioning training may also be accepted with equivalent years of experience.

· Certified Building Commissioning Agent, CCP, BCxP, CxA (AABC) or equivalent preferred.

· Knowledge of Local codes, IECC, ASHRAE, LEED and New York City Local Laws.

· Ability to review MEP submittals – Navigate between requirements listed on drawings and project specifications.

· Ability to review equipment sequences and interlocks, develop functional performance tests to confirm proper operation of equipment.

· Experience testing mechanical equipment including large central plants, understanding and experience testing lighting controls systems.

· Understanding of Building Automation Systems – Ability to review graphics, alarms and trending, identifying system short comings.

· Experience/expertise with using test equipment, such as ADM airflow data multimeter (and velgrid, flow-hood, etc.), ultrasonic leak detector, ultrasonic flow meter, HDM (hydro meter) combustion analyzer, and other more common test equipment (IR Camera, temp/RH probes, IAQ meters etc.)

· Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects in different phases of design and construction.
