Civil Engineering Estimator

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Estimator for a full-time employee position with our client in Hicksville, NY (11801). This is an excellent opportunity to build an estimating career within a dynamic, self-performing heavy civil and demolition contractor. Under the guidance of senior estimators, you will develop and refine quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid packages across a variety of civil project types throughout the greater New York metropolitan area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications for civil, demolition,foundation, and heavy/highway work.

•Assist in the preparation of complete bid packages including direct costs, subcontractor quotes, equipmentcosts, labor rates, and overhead and profit.

•Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations; maintain organized bid day logs and quotecomparison sheets.

•Analyze project plans, specifications, RFPs, and addenda to identify scope inclusions, exclusions, and riskitems.

•Support senior estimators with bid strategy, value engineering, and post-bid review processes.

•Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and unit price libraries.

•Assist in the preparation of cost proposals for change orders on active projects.

•Coordinate with project managers and field superintendents to gather productivity and cost feedback fromcompleted work.

•Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and walk-throughs as required.

•Track and manage bid calendars and deadlines across multiple simultaneous pursuits.

•Prepare estimate summaries, presentations, and bid tabulations for management review.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•1 to 5 years of experience in civil construction estimating, takeoff, or a closely related field.

•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred;equivalent experience considered.

•Working knowledge of civil construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.

•Proficiency in quantity takeoff — experience with On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, orsimilar tools preferred.

•Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating software (HeavyBid, HCSS, Sage, orsimilar) a plus.

•Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with strong attention to detail.

•Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, survey plans, and geotechnical reports.

•Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Exposure to demolition, foundation work, or heavy/highway civil estimating preferred.

•Familiarity with public sector bidding processes (NYSDOT, MTA, NYCDEP, Port Authority, NYC DDC) a plus.

•Understanding of union labor agreements and prevailing wage requirements in the New York area.

•Internship or prior co-op experience with a civil contractor, GC, or specialty
