Hi, I’m Cole Privitere, a Sales Representative at Spearhead. I recently had the chance to sit down with Spearhead’s Managing Director, Craig Carey, for an insightful conversation about the company, his career journey, and more. Excited to share our discussion with you—hope you enjoy!
Cole: Can you tell us a bit about your professional journey?
Craig: Before joining Spearhead I spent time at a few larger organizations where I got the opportunity to develop my business skills and learn about the recruitment industry. During that time, I gained experience in building out different offices and developing relationships. I was excited at the opportunity to join a specialized firm where I had more flexibility to grow the organization as a whole and have true autonomy.
Cole: What do you believe sets Spearhead staffing apart?
Craig: I feel like our biggest asset is the strengths of the relationships we are able to build and maintain. The advantage of operating as a boutique firm is that we have the flexibility to do whatever is best for our clients and provide a very personalized approach to each company’s specific needs and situations.
Cole: What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Craig: Probably learning how to deal with rejection. I feel like it’s a pretty generic answer for anyone coming from a sales background, but learning how to learn from those setbacks and develop thick skin is a skill that I feel has paid dividends across all aspects of my life.
Cole: How did you overcome this?
Craig: I think, as with many things, expanding your comfort zone takes time and practice. It’s important to be patient with yourself and keep everything in perspective. I’ve been fortunate to have had many great mentors to help guide me through this, and now I try to look for opportunities to do the same.
Cole: On a lighter note, what part of Spearhead staffing do you find the most fun?
Craig: For me it would most likely be the lunches and dinners, both with clients and candidates, and with the rest of our team. I’ve been fortunate to be able to interact professionally with many interesting people and share stories. I always appreciate the opportunity to learn more about them outside of a business setting.
