DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Serve as the Plant Focal Point for Pressure Relief & Flare Systems, leading the process units safeguarding revalidation cycle, maintaining up-to-date relief systems & flare models, conducting, and providing guidance for overpressure and under pressure analysis, relief system design, and required documentation.
Ø Plant Subject Matter Expert for pressure relief and flare systems procedures, regulatory codes & standards, staying abreast of industry best practices and standards, Utilize experience and industry information to drive continuous process safety improvement and risk reduction.
Ø Assist with design, sizing, and evaluation of pressure relief systems and flare header – design of new systems and/or resolve existing relief system inadequacies.
Ø Provide technical support to the Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-start Up Safety Review (PSSR) processes. Ensuring relief protection is addressed and documented accordingly for all process changes.
Ø Perform engineering analyses (e.g., hydraulics, relief & flare calculations, dispersion modeling) to ensure process safety compliance, supporting the validation and resolution of identified gaps in a timely manner.
Ø Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting and process safety oversight for special operation activities (e.g., decontamination, startups, shutdowns).
Ø Lead the development, implementation, review, and sustainability of PSM site procedures, technical guidelines, and internal standards to deliver compliance and further risk reduction.
Ø Participate in PSM compliance audits. Interface with regulatory agencies as it relates to PSM, as needed.
Ø Work to close out PSM open action items and audit finding corrective actions.
Ø Conduct field audits, behavioral observation audits, risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
Ø Develop and mentor others to improve process safety capabilities across the organization. Conducting learning sessions and developing training material for employees at all levels of the organization.
The Process Safety Engineer performs a key role in ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM and further reducing risk within the plant. The role interfaces with all the disciplines and organization levels, promoting a process safety culture and a learning mindset, while driving the site to best-in-class PSM performance.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
v Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (or related field) required – 10+ years’ experience. Will consider less

v Proficiency in relief valve and flare system design required.
v A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of PSM.
v Practical understanding of OSHA rules pertaining to PSM.
v Familiarity with process simulation software and relief systems management tools.
v Be knowledgeable in process engineering to serve as a Technical Authority for reviews and approvals of process safety designs completed by contractors and peer engineers. A Technical Authority must have:
v A minimum of 3 years of PSM experience in petrochemical and/or refining industry
v Experience initiating, supporting, or leading Management of Change (MOC) work process.
v Knowledge of relevant codes and industry standards.
v Industry best practices.
v Strong attention to detail.
v Effective communication skills – both verbal and written.
This role is a hybrid position and requires working effectively remotely and virtually. Occasional weekend and evening support may be required to address emergencies and operational issues.
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
