Our client is a very large Asian manufacturer of hoses and tubing–They have over 60% of the battery cooling tubing business in China–they are opening an office in Troy MI, and they have an immediate need for a Mechanical Design Engineer who is promotable.

This  Design Engineering position will provide support to the project management and technical teams in China offices. Applicants should already possess the educational engineering acumen to quickly learn the automotive industry design and validation requirements. Existing familiarity with the OuEM and tier 1 processes, expectations, and personnel is an extreme plus. The Design Engineer will work closely with experienced design engineers on the design function, test validation, document and record keeping, prototype parts assembly and customer interface. This position will be responsible for the communication with customers’ technical teams and reaching milestones. This position will also work closely with the Sales team to determine design specifications, modifications and update drawings for North American and global automotive OEM’s. This position allows for a lot of opportunities for advancement. Also, includes potential overseas training for the right candidates.


  • Provides status updates on project activities
  • CATIA/CAD transfer to customer
  • Coordinate activities of outsourcing testing companies.
  • Assist with managing the external and internal testing process; primarily validation testing
  • Basic understanding of Nylon extrusion or fluid handling is required
  • Understanding of basic lab equipment for component testing
  • Maintain (or in some cases create) database for document retention and retrieval
  • Flexible to work to accommodate global projects and time zones


  • Position will work in Design Engineering Department
  • 5-10% travel
  • Reports to the Director of North America/Technical Leads according to project
  • Located in Troy, Michigan


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering-required
  • CATIA V5, 3D Modeling experience- ideal
  • MS Office and other relevant engineering software – required
  • APQP familiarity and PPAP experience – required
  • 3 years’ experience in design, technical responsible, and project management in Automotive Fluid Handling/Fuel Tank/Tubing supplier and/or OEM level desired
  • Prepared to hit the ground running

  • Experience in working with Asian suppliers is helpful
