Our client is one of the largest internally managed cannabis REITs in the US.  They invest in and own retail dispensaries and specialized industrial cultivation and production facilities in states that have legalized adult-use and/or medical-use cannabis. The facilities are triple-net leased to qualified, state-licensed operators.  With a seasoned REIT management team that has broad expertise encompassing institutional real estate, capital markets and cannabis, they continue to raise capital in order to further grow our portfolio which  currently has over $300 million of assets under management and is currently in the process of completing another significant capital raise.


Currently seeking a Manager of Financial Reporting to join the team.  No supervisory experience required but could lead a team and the company grows.

  • Located in the heart of the Chicago Loop 


Key responsibilities


  • Responsible for preparation of quarterly financial statement reporting (financial statements, footnotes, MD&A) through MRI and Workiva
  • Manage quarterly review process with direct involvement with audit team
  • Liaise with tax team in connection with REIT and annual tax compliance
  • Assist in establishing, monitoring and performing internal controls while also working with internal auditors to improve control environment
  • Manage accounts payable process
  • Process monthly entity sales tax return and payments
  • Ensure completeness of entity level filings (managed by a third party)
  • Manage real estate tax payments and acquisition prorations
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations for the majority of general ledger accounts
  • Assist in acquisition and other transaction accounting, including technical research
Key Experience Required 
  • 3-6 years of public accounting or private corporate experience
  • 4 year degree in Accounting /Finance
  • Self starter, team player, passionate, comfortable with a growing company in a growing industry
Key Experience Desired
  • Mix of big 4/private (could be solely big 4, but would have to have public client experience)
  • SEC reporting experience
  • IPO experience would be a major plus (either on the audit or client side) 
  • SOX experience – assist in design and implement of key controls for public filers
  • REIT or real estate experience (this is ideal, but for strong candidate with heavy SEC experience could entertain other industry)
  • Technical Research doesn’t have to be a guru, but can research and write a memo, knows guidance enough to ask the right questions
