Manager, Estimating

This position involves leadership of the estimating team in development of accurate and timely cost estimates.  The estimating team develops material, labor, freight and subcontract estimates for new cooling towers as well as repair and modification of existing cooling towers.   This position’s primary responsibilities include the collaborative development and improvement of estimating tools.  The successful incumbent formulates objective up-front analyses based on research and in-depth knowledge of trends, historical data and the industry. As the primary source of in-house estimating support for internal and external sales stakeholders, the incumbent possesses extensive knowledge of products and current market conditions. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead estimating team
  • Create accurate cost estimates
  • Oversee accuracy of project quotes and proposals
  • Create and analyze reports related to estimates
  • Develop and manage team processes
  • Develop effective estimating tools based on subject matter expertise and through collaboration with proposal management, labor estimating, materials estimating and engineering
  • Work with estimating, proposal management and sales to improve accuracy and confidence of bids
  • Work with Project Managers and Controller to identify and track significant margin erosion causes
  • Work with Project Managers to develop detailed post-mortem reviews of projects
  • Responsible for Americas estimating team
  • Responsible for supporting all locations in countries as needed for global projects


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • Management experience preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience

Certifications / Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills and sense of objectivity
  • Knowledge of and ability to research recent and historical trends’ effects on the estimating process
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including advanced skills in Excel
  • Strong knowledge of SAP or other ERP system
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Access preferred
