Director of Food Safety & Quality

Job Summary

This position provides Food Safety, Quality, and regulatory leadership to the company by ensuring Food Safety & Quality systems are developed, communicated, implemented, and sustained to provide the safest and highest quality product to our customers.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Developing and maintaining food safety and quality management systems and strive for continuous improvement of those systems
  • Manage direct reports consisting of Quality Manager, Lab Manager, Documentation Specialist, and Quality Lead to ensure pre-requisite Food Safety, Quality, and Sanitation programs are being followed as outlined
  • Lead the Food Safety Team and revise Food Safety Plans as necessary
  • Perform RCA/CAPA response for all customer issues
  • Generate monthly review of SQF system performance including KPI’s
  • Enforces adherence to GMP’s, SQF standards, and customer requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring all employees are trained adequately on food safety, GMP’s, quality assurance concepts, HACCP, policies and procedures
  • Participates in all facility audits, including SQF, GMP, customer audits, third party audits, local, state, and federal regulatory audits
  • Responsible for overseeing and ensuring adherence to finish product specifications. Notifies and gives guidance to management and operational personnel regarding out of specification products
  • Responsible for overseeing the non-conforming product program in the facility
  • Provides training to new hires as well as on-going training for existing employees

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of food manufacturing processes and preventive controls
  • Solid understanding of food safety concepts and GFSI requirements
  • Experience in the implementation of HACCP, GMP’s, SOP’s and other food safety and quality assurance systems
  • HACCP and PCQI Certified
  • BS in Food Science or related field
  • Minimum 5+ years Food Safety & Quality Management experience in the food industry required
