We are currently looking for a Customs Compliance Manager to come on board with our 3PL Client in the Itasca, IL Area. This role will be responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures involved in the entire process for customs clearance of international shipments, including ensuring accuracy of documentation, TSA, and international trade compliance. Success in this role will result in an increase in the efficiency and compliance of the exporting process. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in export documentation or customs compliance, knowledge of export control item classifications and the applicable implications of a code determination

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating data, ensuring compliance with customs regulations for all countries
  • Maintain relationships with Customs Brokers for compliance
  • Maintain existing and create new export classification processes, and ensure they are enforced
  • Mentor individual Operating Unit Export Compliance personnel in resolving regulatory and classification interpretations
  • Daily and weekend overtime is expected to manage escalated or high visibility issues and Peak shipping periods
  • Auditing shipments for proper documentation and operational clearance procedures
  • Responsible for risk mitigation of improper processes or procedures related to customs clearance
  • Manage the export specialist teams in each facility who create daily customs paperwork for outbound shipments
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Lead and/or management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience in export operations, logistics, or supply chain
  • Three to Five (5) + years’ experience in export documentation or customs compliance
  • Deep understanding of HS codes, LC documentation, shipping terminology, and customs procedures
  • Knowledge of export control item classifications and the applicable implications of a code determination
  • Ongoing knowledge of parcel and mail trade compliance
  • Must be highly analytical with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience in working with a high degree of autonomy
  • Ability to lead projects and influence decision makers
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines
