Job Title: Junior Utilities Materials Estimator 
 
 
Summary:
 
Under the Lead Estimator supervision, this person will assist in preparing cost estimates for construction projects in bidding on or determining price of products, materials, etc.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
 Assist the lead estimator in preparing estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
 Collaborates with lead estimator to meet all bid dates and deadlines.
 Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
 Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
 Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
 Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and
adjustments to cost estimates.
 Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as
the project develops.
 Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
 Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
 Maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations with guidance from the Lead Estimator.
 Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors with guidance from the Lead
Estimator.
 Provide Lead Estimator details on material and labor requirements in relation to cost-effectiveness in producing or purchasing components.
 Visit site and record information about access, drainage and topography, and availability of utility
services.
 Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to reduce
cost
 
 
Supervisory:
This position does not oversee staff.
 
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
 
Education/Experience
 
High School Diploma or equivalent, required. At least 6 months in the industry, required. Experience as an estimator, preferred.
 
Preferred Skills/Abilities
 
 Agtek software experience. Other industry software experience, a plus.
 Excellent analytical skills
 Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures
 Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
