Aerospace and Intelligence company needs an Automation Systems Engineer who will be responsible for the development of factory automation systems concepts of operations (CONOPS), requirements, and architecture. Will also support test planning and the integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) of these systems.

The Automation Systems Engineer will perform these functions using a variety of methods and enabling technologies/techniques, including Agile product development and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The Automation Systems Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge on automation technologies and Industry 4.0 concepts as they relate to current and future projects.

The telecommuting position will be networked across 5 factories, which include locations in McKinney (TX), El Segundo (CA),  Scott County (MS), Santa Barbara, CA

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated systems engineering experience with proven track record working with in one or more of the following domains: CONOPS development, requirements analysis and development; system performance analysis; interface definition and control; system IV&V; and system architecture development
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and ability to effectively communicate with leadership and individual contributors on the program team
  • Working knowledge of System Modeling Language (SysML) and/or Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) fundamentals
  • Ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams of engineering and manufacturing personnel
  • Familiarity with program milestone reviews (particularly associated with SRR, PDR and CDR)
  • Strong organization, coordination, critical thinking, planning, teaming, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • US Citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen as the position will require the ability to access US only Data Systems


Desired Skills:

  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (i.e., production, sustainment and/or full program lifecycle)
  • Fundamentals of the following common MBSE tools: DOORs Next Gen, Cameo Enterprise Architect, or Rational Rhapsody
  • Experience in automation design, development, deployment, validation and/or sustainment in a factory setting
  • Experience in Operations including procedure development, training, transition to production, installation, and deployment
  • Experience with automation systems and/or programming environments (robots, vision systems, PLCs, etc.)
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Understanding of Lean principles and terminology and/or six sigma black belt or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts, Digital Manufacturing Simulation
  • Understanding of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), ISA (International Society of Automation) 95 architectures
  • Ability to obtain an SSBI clearance, or candidate holds active SSBI


Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.

Desired Education:

  • Master’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
