Senior Audit Accountant Expectations:

A Senior Audit Accountant is expected to perform a variety of responsibilities.  These responsibilities will include:

  • Ability to effectively complete all areas of an audit file and ensure that our audits comply with firm policy and GAAS, GAAP, or other regulations as needed
  • Ability to manage staff, allocating test work appropriately
  • Act as the primary contact with the client during audit fieldwork
  • Provide first line of answers for staff doing test work
  • Initial drafting of financial statements and footnotes
  • Ensure file is rolled forward and updated prior to fieldwork
  • Update and send out PBC list prior to interim
  • Develop budget to present to manager for review with engagement letter
  • Consistent budget to actual tracking
  • Network development
  • Ability to organize and juggle multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Budget monitoring
  • Oversee the execution of detailed balance sheet and income statement testing
  • Training new staff
  • Overseeing staff
  • Scheduling planning, meetings, interim and year end fieldwork
  • Inventory observations
  • Review of staff work
  • Walkthroughs
  • SAS99 analysis of journal entries
  • Risk Assessment
  • Fraud inquiries
  • Testing complex audit areas or areas that involve more risk of RMM
  • Ability to analyze misstatements identified and whether they are material to the financial statements – SAB 108
  • Completion of Financial statement disclosure checklist to identify departures from GAAP within the financial statements
  • Ability to assess whether departures from GAAP are material to the financial statements

 

 

Senior Audit Accountant Goals:

The goals of an Audit Senior are as follows:

  • To exemplify the roles and responsibilities within a mid-size regional public accounting firm through attitude and work product;
  • Hone technical proficiency and knowledge of state regulations and other pertinent technical guidance;
  • Efficiently and effectively manage assigned projects and staff considering adherence to budgeted time and cost of completion;
  • Exemplify the firm’s core values through internal firm involvement, attitude, work ethic and work product;
  • Keep, staff and interns utilized;
  • Maintain sound client rapport and relationships;
  • Develop positive internal relationships with coworkers;
  • Develop a professional network, generate new business leads for potential new client prospects and successfully sell said opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell other firm services to existing clients and sell said opportunities successfully

 

Hours Commitment and Direct Report:

Work hours are flexible and, within reason, can be tailored around a Staff Audit Accountant’s personal schedule.  Overall expectation is that a Staff Audit Accountant will work 40 hours, weekly, during the offseason, unless pursuant to an alternative arrangement, a reduced commitment is mutually agreed and understood.  During busy season, Staff Audit Accountants are expected to recognize that their time commitment will likely increase.  Upon request, the Staff Audit Accountant should be available to work more than 40 hours, weekly, barring unusual and/or infrequent circumstances precluding their ability to do so. The Staff Audit Accountant will report directly to the respective role in charge of their assignment
