LOCATION: Columbus, Ohio
Looking for a smaller community(25K population), that offers a low cost of living(18% lower than US average) and plenty of activities in the area but is within an hour of a large city.
If so, an opportunity to work with an integrated health care system based in east central Ohio is looking for someone to join their team.
The system is a not-for-profit and has over 300 physicians and multiple outpatient care centers throughout the area.
The system is the largest provider in a six county region and a primary referral center.
It offers a higher level of service than what is typically found in a community of its size including open-heart surgery, trauma care, a Level II neonatal intermediate care unit, neurosurgery and
comprehensive cancer services.

This position is responsible for directing specific legal functions as assigned and delegated by the Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel of The Healthcare System or the Assistant General Counsel, with primary assignment to physician relations.
This role is responsible to complete appropriate legal research and provide recommendations to Chief Legal Officer and Assistant General Counsel for legal strategies on matters related to the hospital concerns.
Also collaborates with Chief Legal Officer and Assistant General Counsel to support healthcare sytems leadership by providing effective advice on a variety of legal issues including but not limited to business transactions, contracts, regulatory compliance, etc.
SOME RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
-Independently provides support and advice to management on legal issues relating to contracts, regulatory requirements, compliance/non-compliance and other legal matters, primary in dealing with physician arrangements and relationships.
-Advises leadership and works alongside employees from a variety of areas, including strategic business units, marketing, physician partners and medical staff.
-Provides legal advice on contract status, legal risks and business terms of various physician dealings.
-Independently performs complex contract review and analysis, primary in the physician services department.
-Corresponds with physicians to negotiate initial contracts and resolve contractually related questions and concerns, in coordination with the Physician Services department and senior leaders.
-Interact with leadership staff in developing and implementing its financial planning component and operations to align with physician and other provider contract directives and regulatory requirements.
-Ensures adherence to Genesis physician financial arrangement policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations, including responsibilities such as presenting physician arrangements to the Board of Directors, obtaining internal documentation of compensation justifications and of third-party fair market valuations, as applicable.
-Participates in legal aspects of the value-based payment systems for the medical group.
-Support the educational activities of the medical group for legal compliance topics and financial/billing related regulatory changes as needed.
-Implements a system of ongoing communication with Physician Services management to ensure that appropriate management controls and reporting procedures are in place to ensure that legal services and the Physician Services leadership team have up-to-date situational awareness of all core issues and operating data pertinent to sound decision making and legal advice.
-Ensure that the operational and finance policies and procedures of the Medical Group provide for legal and ethical compliance with all regulations, laws and good operating practices.
-Assists Physician Services to develop, manage, coordinate, and continually improve the Physician Services Compliance Plan. Works to promote compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, rules and policies of the governmental authorities and payers.
-Ensure senior management is well-informed on legal issues impacting the physician relations division(s).
-Drafts terms and conditions of agreements ensuring all legal objectives are met.
-Performs pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
-Conducts needed legal research including unique legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions and codes.
-Handles legal inquiries from within the company and responds with legal opinion as appropriate.
-Serves on various internal committees both as participant and counsel.
-Participates in the development of company policies, procedures and programs related to legal matters.
Requires Juris Doctorate Degree.
Must be a member in good standing of the Ohio bar.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a practicing attorney required.
Prior experience specifically in the health care industry or financial analytics required (both preferred).
Reports to the Deputy Counsel.
This is a new position due to growth of the healthcare system.
Position will offer between 108K-148K depending on experience and comes with a full benefit package and relocation.
